Departments can now apply for Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses
October 22, 2026
University Systems is now accepting departmental applications for Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses. Microsoft 365 Copilot is a paid AI productivity tool that works with Microsoft Office apps and your organizational data. It is different from Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, which is already available to the 糖心视频 community.
- Applications are submitted by departments, not by individual employees.
- Departments do not need to request a license for every employee.
- A license currently costs $295 after tax per user, per year.
- Submitting an application starts the onboarding process. It does not provide immediate access or guarantee a specific timeline.
The onboarding process
Before licenses are assigned, University Systems and the department will work through the following steps:
- confirm the department’s request and planned users
-
review department-owned SharePoint sites that the intended users can access
- have site owners review permissions and apply sensitivity labels where appropriate
- receive approval from the department’s administrative authority
- confirm license numbers and complete required training sessions
